Senior Netball

2017 Senior netball selection trials have been completed.  It has been a gruelling process for the coaches and players; however, all senior teams are now full on into training.  While teams and squads have been pencilled in, there may still be changes in the lead up to the season.  The number of players vying for a place in our Barwon Heads teams has been exceptional this season which is very exciting although it has made the selection process a challenging one.   It is also extremely exciting that Barwon Heads is going to field an extra team of Gulls who will complete in either the Life Be In It competition in Geelong or another competition or grade that may arise.

Elise Ruggles has jumped into a coaching role this season and is taking on our talented Under 19 crew.  Elise, as well as being one of our gun senior defenders, has a rich netball background and the Under 19 girls stand to learn lots from a player and coach of Elise’s calibre.

We have four practice matches forthcoming and the girls are very keen to actually get on the court and get into it.  While they have had a big pre-season and are looking fit, getting onto the court and working on ‘match-fitness’ will be all important as we move closer to the start of the season.  Our senior teams will be lining up against Leopold, Cobden, Grovedale and hopefully Thompson.   These matches will provide a terrific hit-out before our first round against Newcomb.

Work is underway on our courts and while we have had to rearrange our pre-season slightly to accommodate the change in venue– all is going well.  The inconvenience is a small price to pay for the facilities we will hopefully begin the season with.  We are extremely grateful to Ocean Grove Netball Club for accommodating us whilst our courts are being resurfaced and our facilities upgraded.

VNA and Club memberships will need to be paid prior to Round 1.  Club membership can be paid on this website – just follow the links.  The Barwon Heads Netball link for VNA is:

If you have paid your VNA elsewhere, you will need to log in and follow the process through; however you won’t need to pay again.  This will attach you to Barwon Heads Netball Club.

Congratulations to Ella Armstrong, Maddi Finn and Coco Leahy who are all currently in the Junior Development squad – and  will join the A/B squad for training in 2017
