Round 10: Match Preview

Match Preview: Head to the Heads

By veteran local footy scribe C Gull

ALL Bellarine roads lead to Howard Harmer Reserve on Saturday for the top of the table clash between undefeated home side Barwon Heads and fellow premiership aspirants Torquay.

The home side have taken all before them so far this season in chalking up nine wins on the trot and go into the match full of confidence. Meanwhile, the visitors are coming off an upset defeat against sixth-placed Queenscliff and will be primed to bounce back.

And so the scene is set for the biggest home and away encounter at Barwon Heads in a long, long time. For the locals who thought the Easter Saturday showdown with Geelong Amateurs was a blockbuster, they haven’t seen anything yet.

This is a game which promises to have everything and seems certain to deliver as both teams are fit, strong, quick and oozing with skill. At the same time, it might just turn into a “knock ‘em down, drag ‘em out, knock ‘em down again” affair.

The Tigers are on the prowl and will make sure that no quarter is asked and no quarter is given. In turn, the vastly-improved Seagulls are ready for an arm wrestle of epic proportions.

Both teams are eager to gain the all-important psychological advantage in their first meeting of the season and I’m tipping this will go right down to wire.

They should be charging a premium for this one as it truly will be worth the price of admission.
