Season 2018 - it's started.....

A BHFNC update from President Tim Goddard

Season 2018 Update

What a start to the season!

Last Saturday at Howard Harmer was sensational with great performances from our Netball and Football teams. The crowd was excellent, weather was great, games played in the right spirit….. gotta love netball & footy!

A big thankyou to all who worked in the leadup to Saturday and on Saturday to help make our first round of Netball and Men’s Football so successful.

A big shout out to all volunteers in the Clubroom Bar, Canteen and Can Bar – these are key parts of the game day experience.  Many thanks to those who were there and helped out on Saturday

Senior Football

A really strong start to the season on the weekend. Both games were the result of total team performance and it was great to see all of our new players adopt the Seagulls mantra

Of special note was the winner of the Phil Walter Award. Phil was a past player of both clubs and it was great to see his nephew Zach Walter play so well. Zach, however, was over shadowed by the 11 goals kicked by out debutant Mitch Phelps. Great work Mitch and what a way to begin your Seagull journey.

The Phil Walter Award is a special award and given out every time we play Newcomb Power in memory of Phil. The Walter family have a proud and long association with BHFNC so for this to be presented at our opening game for season 2018 was a special way to start the season.

There have been some changes in the coaching ranks – having acted in a care-taker role for the U19 team recently, Sam Schaller was recently re-confirmed as Reserves Coach for season 2018.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Tim McMahon as Coach of the U19s for season 2018. Good luck to both Tim and Sam in their appointments and all the best for the season.

Netball

Round 1 done and all areas of netball have kicked off with a cracking start to Season 2018!

In A Grade goals were hot and we looked strong across the court with the addition of only 2 new players to the team. B Grade also had a very strong win fuelled by a great combination of new and familiar faces – including Ella Armstrong holding her own from U17.

C, D & E also had good wins with every single team throughout the netball starting to gel. With a great pre-season as their backbone, we are confident our netball teams will go from strength to strength.

We are enjoying an enormous amount of support for our junior ranks with several senior players coaching and mentoring, as well as some Mums and a Dad back for another season.

All teams that played Saturday gained great wins for themselves, with U11 girls getting a run early in the morning appeared to have a fab time.

Junior Football

The Junior Football program is now in full swing with all teams training and looking forward to the new season. This year we will field U12, U15 and U18 Girls and U9 (x2) U11 (x2) U13 (x2) U15 and U17 Boys teams.

With so many teams and new Seagulls, the future looks bright. There are also a number of new coaches and team managers which is awesome to have fresh faces contributing to the club.

Recently all Junior Coaches met together with our Senior Coaches to share ideas and ensure alignment around BHFNC coaching philosophies – thanks to Barwon Heads Hotel for hosting this event.

Junior Footy starts Saturday 14th so good luck to all players. Thanks to the Junior Committee for the work you have done so far.

Auskick and NetSetGo

These foundational and fun programs commence on Friday 20th April and are run in parallel – NetSet Go starts 4.45pm and finishes at 5.45pm / AusKick starts at 5pm and finishes at 6pm with a combined sausage sizzle up in the Clubrooms from 6.00pm (thanks Benno’s Meating Place)  – yes the bar is open for parents from 6pm onwards.

Registration for both programs is very important – especially for NetSetGo where overall places are restricted to 60 (only 5 spots left).

Registration for NetSetGo is via https://netball.resultsvault.com/common/pages/reg/signin.aspx?fl=128&type=6&prodid=65798&id=39299&entityid=44521

Captain’s Club

Held at The Beach House, the 2018 Captain’s Club was launched on Wednesday 7th March with an overview of the upcoming season provided by all senior coaches – Olivia Wilson, Angus Christian and Bobby Wallace. Thanks to Ian Cover for MC’ing the night and to all the Captain’s who attended. The 2018 Captain’s Club has been enhanced with some special discounts for CC members when they show their card at certain retailers. It’s not too late to join up!

BHFNC Sponsors

Massive thanks to all the businesses that have come on board to support BHFNC in season 2018 – we now have over 50 sponsors with a couple more to be finalized.

Our Premium Sponsor Rodpak continue in 2018 and we are really pleased to announce our Platinum Sponsors – The Beach House, Barwon Heads Community Bank and Barwon Heads Hotel with a fourth Platinum Sponsor to be announced shortly.

We have new sponsors across the board in Gold, Silver and Bronze categories and what has been really pleasing has been the continued support of our existing sponsors.

We are in the process of updating our website with all of the sponsors details and I would encourage you to support them with your business as the opportunity presents.

Battle of the Bridge – just got bigger!

The weekend of Saturday 14th and 15th April will be huge as we host Ocean Grove for Netball, Senior Football and the inaugural match of BHFNC Senior Women’s Football team. We would love to see as many people as possible down at Howard Harmer Reserve over both days to support all of our players.

Saturday is traditionally a massive day against Ocean Grove and Sunday will be exciting with our new Senior Women’s Team also contesting the Battle of the Bridge – good luck everyone!

BHFNC Volunteers

Thanks to all who have put up their hand to help our a team. Whether it be coaching, making coffee, cooking a BBQ, being a 1st Aider – there are many roles to fill and we are lucky at BHFNC to have so many committed and supportive members.

Each home game requires additional volunteers for Canteen, Clubroom Bar and Can Bar so when your coordinator or Team Manager asks you to volunteer – it would be very much appreciated if you could help out. The feedback we get from volunteers is the more we have, the more fun it is!

What a season, what a club!
