BARWON HEADS UNVEIL NEW RECRUITS

Barwon Heads Football Club unveiled two new recruits on Sunday’s players / coaches get together at valued sponsor the TIN SHED.

28 year old Matthew Iannelli joins Barwon Heads after a long and distinguished career at GFL club Bell Park where he played over a 100 senior games at the Dragons. Iannelli suffered an ACL injury early in 2019 and the dedicated small forward / on baller will be a great addition to the Seagulls in 2020.

26 year old Zach Wright joins Barwon Heads after winning the Reserves Best and Fairest at GFL premiers St Marys. Wright also played senior football at St Marys over the last 3 seasons and the versatile swing man will be a great addition to the Seagulls where he has previously played under senior coach Troy Mitchell.

Barwon Heads have signed 52 players for the 2020 season which includes 19 of the premiership 22 players who triumphed over Torquay. Youngsters Zach Walter and Charlie Sprague kick off pre season with Geelong (VFL) this week and Sam Evans is still to commit for the 2020 season.

Player retention has been very strong at Barwon Heads again for the 2020 season and in 2019 forty five different players represented the Seagulls at senior level which included 16 players who were multiple points players. It is very pleasing that 14 of those 16 players have recommitted for the 2020 season with only Mitch Gaunt retiring and Mick Salmon unsigned but verbally committing to play.

It is also pleasing that 4 of our players have  been selected in the Geelong Falcons pre season squad – Charlie Brauer, Sam Witherden, Charlie Hurst and Oliver Wiltshire.

Barwon Heads officially kick off pre season on Monday 25th November where the team will undergo a 4 week block of training pre christmas.

Cheers,

Brendan Curry (Football Director)
