2020 COLTS COACHING STRUCTURE FINALISED

Barwon Heads Football Club is excited to announce a new coaching structure for the Colts in the upcoming 2020 season. Barwon Heads Colts had a successful season in 2019 and did an outstanding job to rally in the last third of the season to win three knockout finals before losing to top side Ocean Grove in the Grand Final played at Torquay. Our sincere appreciation is extended to Ray and Belinda Leetham for their efforts throughout the 2019 season.

Former junior and senior player at Barwon Heads, Harley Lewis has been appointed coach of the Colts for the 2020 season – Harley was very keen to coach the Barwon Heads Colts and he has a background in fitness and junior development. Harley has met with senior coaches Troy Mitchell and Mitch Herbison who have endorsed Harley’s appointment and will act as mentors for him throughout the 2020 season. Harley has also recruited good friend Hayden Down who is a “fitness guru” and has extensive experience conducting pre season training and will also assist on match days as a line coach. Harley believes that Hayden will be a great addition on and off the field for the Barwon Heads Colts team. It is also great that Frank Young will be an Assistant Coach to Harley for our Colts team – Frank has coached Barwon Heads junior sides between 2011 and 2014 and also assisted Sam Schaller at both under 16 and under 18 level. Frank has two sons in Oscar and Noah playing at senior level for Barwon Heads and a younger son Flynn who is part of the Geelong Falcons training squad for the 2020 season.

Football Director Brendan Curry stated, “it is great that the club can make these quality appointments now, as last season we could not get a coach till March. The Colts can be a difficult age group so it is important to continue having enthusiastic and talented coaches at this level. Barwon Heads is going to endeavour to entice former players back to our club as our philosophy from senior level down is to promote the talented youth at our club. To have both Charlie Sprague and Charlie Brauer play in our Senior Premiership last season and to also play Noah Young, Dom Booth, Kai Copland and Oliver Wiltshire play at senior level has sent a very loud and clear message to our junior footballers that if they work hard and are committed, senior opportunities will be available.”

Barwon Heads Colts will have two training sessions before Christmas :

  1. Thursday December 5 commencing at 5.30pm at Barwon Heads Cricket Ground
  2. Thursday December 12 commencing at 5.30pm at Barwon Heads Cricket Ground

Cheers,

Brendan Curry (Football Director)
