NEW COLTS COACH APPOINTED

Barwon Heads FNC are very pleased to announce that Joel Kearney has been appointed as our new Colts Coach for the 2021 season. Harley Lewis who was the Colts Coach for the cancelled 2020 season had to stand down due to a work transfer and the club sincerely thanks him for his efforts.

30 year old Kearney has an impressive football background including being an Assistant Coach at Reserves level with Lilydale FC in 2013 – 2014, Senior Assistant Coach at Rowville FC 2014 – 2015, Under 19 Head Coach at Rowville FC in 2016 and was Senior Line Coach at Geelong West Giants GFL in 2018 – 2019. Highly respected Geelong West Giants Coach Greg Mellor has given Kearney a very strong endorsement as a well organised coach and a good communicator.

Another bonus is that Kearney is a teacher at St Margaret’s Primary School in East Geelong where Principal Brian “Barney” Everitt (father of Xavier and Sammy) is the head honcho and fellow teachers include playing senior coach Mitch Herbison and vice captain Ned Aulsebrook.

Joel and his wife Lucy who is also a school teacher are living in Belmont and he said, “In my interactions so far, I have just been really impressed with the people involved in the club and their welcoming and friendly nature. You can see how proud everyone is of the recent achievements, but know there is a drive within to still become better. I’m excited to get involved at the U19’s level and help the young men involved become better footballers and better people. I want to create an environment for the players where they can enjoy playing with their mates and also experience success along the way. I’m just looking forward to getting started and being part of this wonderful club.”

Football Director Brendan Curry stated, “It is a great coup for our club to obtain the services of such a well credentialed coach like Joel. Colts is a challenging age group and we place a high importance on surrounding our players with good coaches and good people. It also very pleasing that both Frank Young and Matt Barsby will be assisting Joel throughout the 2021 season.”

Colts training is on Monday nights (Barwon Heads Cricket Ground) and Wednesday nights (Oakdene Oval Ocean Grove) commencing at 6.00pm. Soon training will come forward to a 5.30pm start.

New players are welcomed and if you have any players interested or need to be spoken to, contact either Joel Kearney (0411 224 058) or Brendan Curry (0409 857 308).

On behalf of BHFNC we welcome both Joel and Lucy to our club.
