Senior Netball

Senior Coaching

Barwon Heads endeavours to appoint quality senior coaches. In appointing coaches for our A and B Grades we consider many attributes that include experience, expertise and commitment to the club.

Our C – E Grade coaching appointments are usually from within the club and similarly we look for attributes that will have a positive influence on our teams and the club.

The club has a Coaching Mentor who oversees and liaises with all coaches. The mentor ensures that coaching techniques are consistent across the club and that younger coaches are provided with and informed of up-to-date and current practices.

Things you need to know

All players must have current membership with the Barwon Heads Football and Netball club.
Membership is available online through this website.  Players, Coaches & Team Managers pay this membership annually. It covers club and volunteer management expenses such as equipment, training courses, facilities and other costs associated with running a successful club.

Players must also have current Netball Victoria Membership (formally NVA) which is available online through Netball Victoria. This registration fee is a one-off payment and covers you in all Netball Victoria affiliated competitions for that year (throughout the state).  This registration provides medical insurance cover for any sporting injuries experienced throughout the season when training and/or playing (this includes for try-outs, trials or tournaments).

Accessories including polo tops, hoodies, track pants, vests, training tops and socks are also available for purchase through the club.

Awards and Presentations

The senior vote count is usually held after the last home and away match.

Incentives for junior and senior playing grades are provided each week as determined by the team’s coaching personnel.

End of season awards for all teams are:

  • Best and Fairest
  • Best and Fairest Runner Up
  • Coach’s Award
  • Senior Aggregate – awarded to the player with the most votes overall.
  • Hot Shot – awarded to the senior player who scores the most goals for the season.

Best Senior Club Person

Best Senior Club Person is awarded to a person who works tirelessly throughout the season for the betterment of the club. This award can be anyone associated with the club including players, members, volunteers or committee.

Firth Award

In memory of John Firth, a former club stalwart, the Firth award is presented to one senior player who demonstrates outstanding determination, commitment and effort throughout the season. This award is decided collaboratively by coaches.
