HEADS BOUNCE BACK WITH SOLID WIN OVER AMMOS

Barwon Heads have rebounded from consecutive losses to Torquay and Ocean Grove to defeat Geelong Amateurs by 57 points away in Round 6. Barwon Heads now boast a 4 win 2 loss record in 2021 to sit in fourth spot on the ladder.

Barwon Heads went into this game making a staggering 10 changes and have now played an amazing 41 different players at senior level in 2021. Into the side came playing coach Mitch Herbison for his first game since Round One, Otto Opperman, Lachlan Slorach, Braeden Eddy, Noah Young and Koban Treweek. Charlie Walter was selected for his first senior game, 2021 recruit Will Paulin debuted and James Wills and Matthew Beckwith were promoted after solid form at Reserves level. Out of the side went Oliver Wiltshire, Will Jacobs, Zach Wright, Seb Kent and Sam Harris through injury, Lee Spiteri, Ryan Harvey, Jake Barlow and Flynn Young were unavailable and Tim Chapman omitted.

Barwon Heads set up the win with a blistering first quarter with Herbison and Brown creating plenty of problems up forward and both kicked multiple goals whilst Otto Opperman, Archie Hildebrandt and Jayden McLauchlan also hit the scoreboard. Brock Close was dominating the ruck and Eddy, Opperman, Young, Wills and Mitchell were prominent. Up back Sam Witherden, Kyle Polley, Lachlan Slorach, Koban Treweek and Matty Beckwith were strong and provided plenty of run. A 39 point lead at quarter time was a very good start.

The second quarter begun with Heads dominating again but inaccuracy in front of goal kept Ammos in the game. Ammos begun to win more of the ball and this was rewarded with them kicking 3 consecutive goals to reduce the half time lead to 26 points.

The third quarter was nearly a carbon copy of the first quarter with Herbison and Brown creating havoc and Hildebrandt and Young also kicking majors as the Heads opened up a 58 point lead. The final quarter saw the Ammos kick 3 goals from limited forward entries whilst Heads also dominated general play but could only kick 3 goals. Highlight of the final quarter was the unselfish action of Damien Horbury to handball to debutant Charlie Walter in the goal square for him to kick his first senior goal and it was great to see all of his team mates mob him to congratulate this achievement.
