SEAGULLS DOING THE HARD MILES

2019 SEASON

SEAGULLS DOING THE HARD MILES

The players recommenced training post Christmas on the 16th January – I think all players would agree that there has been a huge lift in intensity in this period. New Senior Coach Troy “Baked Bean Head” Mitchell has certainly settled in and with the assistance of his coaching staff, are driving the playing group for improvement in all areas. Numbers attending the sessions on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday night have been very strong and it was great to see the Colts commence training on Monday 4th February with 21 players in attendance.

The club is pleased to announce another four new contracted recruits for the 2019 season.

• 28 year old Tim Chapman joins us from Diamond Creek in the Northern Football League, where he has played 84 senior games predominantly as a defender. Tim and his partner Jess Kearney have purchased a house in Barwon Heads and Jess is a teacher at the local Barwon Heads Primary School.

• 23 year old Mick Salmon joins us after spending the last two years travelling overseas. Mick played for Simpson in 2015 and 2016 where he played in a premiership and before that, played over 50 senior games with Cobden in the Hampden FL, whilst also being on the Geelong Falcons list. Mick has relocated to Barwon Heads and has found employment with Jordan Davis.

• 30 year old Chris Varsamakis joins us after not playing in 2018 and previously playing in Country Leagues for Quambatook and Lancaster. In 2013 Chris was a key member of Bundoora’s Northern FL premiership side, he also had a distinguished junior career with TAC Cup side Northern Knights and represented Vic Metro. Chris is living with his partner in Barwon Heads and will soon commence building a home in Torquay.

• 31 year old Wayne Barrett re-joins the Seagulls in 2019 after missing all of last season through injury. Wayne had provided terrific service in 2016 and 2017 after joining the club from Grovedale. Wayne’s experience and footy smarts will be a welcome addition in 2019.
